Service Men and WomenEach day, we are blessed to be alive and to be surrounded by such beauty here on the island of Maui. We have many people to thank, including those who dedicate their lives in service to protect our freedom, and rights as American citizens. We all have connections to service men and women, whether is be a father, mother, aunty, or brother. We constantly hear about the impacts they have in our daily lives, and reflect on tragic events such as September 11th, and how they persevere to protect lives. We thank Senior Chief Emery Nelms who visited SAMS just last week after a 9 month deployment to share his experiences as a Submariner. Mahalo and welcome home Emery! I am having a book drive for children at Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu as my eighth-grade community service project. I love to read! Reading has helped me become a better student and a life long learner. It hurts me to realize many children and young adults don't have access to books they may be interested in or need.
