Mālama ka ʻāina: Sustainability for a better FutureAloha and welcome St. Anthony Students, Staff, and 'Ohana. This week our topic at SAMS Weekly is "Mālama ka ʻāina" to take care and live in harmony with the land. Here in Hawai'i, we have a special responsibility to take care of the land in which nourishes our lives. A special thanks to Kumu Koa in helping us this week with her knowledge in 'Ōlelo Hawai'i a me nā loina Hawai'i. Hi my name is Jezziel A. and this weeks topic is Environment and Sustainability. Some ways we can practice keeping our campus clean is by always picking up trash that we see and not leaving it there. Another way we can help our campus stay clean is by eating all our food and not to waste it. We should all keep our campus clean because God teaches us how to respect his creations. Everyone should participate in keeping our campus clean because if birds eat plastic on the ground it can make them die or get really sick. When you participate in cleaning our campus you are helping the whole environment. When you help the environment you are helping God’s creation stay clean and not dirty. This is why you should always help our campus stay clean!!!!! Hi my name is Kaimana K. and I am from Ms.Rodriguez’s journalism class. It's important to keep the earth clean because it can protect wildlife and give us clean air to breath. It is also important to keep the earth clean because it reduces pollution. It also protects the extinction of endangered animals. A clean environment protects ecosystems and all life on earth so we should start cleaning up!!!! Keeping our environment clean is important because keeping our environment clean means that you are respecting god's creation. If you keep our environment clean its doesn't just affect the animals it affects us to. You can keep this environment clean by cleaning up beaches, parks, and your block. You could start cleaning up now by picking up trash at our school so we can have a clean school. Remember to pick up trash because it helps us to!!!!!!! Introductions: Jezziel A. & Kaimana K. (6th Grade) What's it all About?“MĀLAMA KA ʻĀINA’’ This week our theme is “MĀLAMA KA ʻĀINA.”In order to take care of our land or aina we must pick up our rubbish off the ground. We also have to clean our environment and plant more seeds. We also have to recycle bottles, batteries, cans and paper bags. We could use our bikes or walk to reduce the pollution. The cause of cars, burning things, and putting harmful chemicals in the air makes our air contaminated. We should respect the land and sustain the plant life in Maui so that our future generation is cleaner. Also so that our native plant species won’t be extinct. Did you know current rates of plant species extinction are estimated to be 100-1,000 times higher than those of the pre-human era? One in 5 plant species are currently threatened with extinction. Rare species are an important part of recent evidence-based approaches to biodiversity, analysis, prioritization and conservation. This means that rare plant species tell us how they live in these untouched areas. So we should improve our environment to have space to plant plants. Also in designated areas and in surrounding landscapes to protect, plant, and conserve nature. Reporters: Aubrey & William H. This week our topic is environment and sustainability. In our comic, we are going to talk about a man trying to cut down a tree. The tree is so scared that he runs away, but the man is chasing him still. This is what happen if you hurt the environment. Trees are so scared that they just want to run away from the places they live. Thank you for seeing our comic. We really hope that you like it, and hope you have a nice day. This comic is important to describe environmental sustainability because this happens to a lot of trees around the world. Trees are cut down so that we can make tissues, desks, pencils, and a lot more everyday items. Soon in the future, trees could be extinct and we might not have oxygen. Now it is the chance to change the world by not using that much tress, and being careful with out waste by recycling. What's Happening in Exploration? We're all having a blast, and exploring a variety of topics in our exploratory classes. Enjoy!

SAMS students have what is takes to be a Trojan Athlete! Hi my name is Ryan C. and my name is Aubrey A. This week the theme for SAS Weekly is Sports and St. Anthony Trojan Athletics. Some sports that St.Anthony offers this semester is girls Volleyball, boys and girls Basketball, Cross country, Weightlifting, and Air Riflery. We believe having sports at SAS school is a good thing because it allows students to be well rounded. Participating in Trojan athletics during middle school allows kids to get a good experience on how to play those sports for high school. Sports are also a good thing to participate in because you can keep yourself entertained, happy, and healthy. We know that there are many athletic people at school because we often see many people at recess and P.E. playing with their friends and being athletic while playing Basketball and Volleyball. Introduction: Aubrey A. & Ryan C (Grade 6) Interview: What are your thoughts about Sports?Hi my name is Riana H. This week our themes for SAMS Weekly is sports and Trojan Athletics. I interviewed Jayla F. from 7th grade first. “What sport do you play?” Jayla plays volleyball for the SAMS girls Volleyball team. “Why did you pick this sport?” She likes spending time with her teammates and she has a lot of fun playing volleyball. She loves her coach because the coach cares about her and her teammates a lot. The next student I interviewed is Yuna from 6th grade. “What sport do you play?” Yuna likes swimming because if it is a hot day she can go swimming. Yuna also like swimming free style. She likes hanging out with her teammates. “Why did you pick this Sport?” She did swimming since she was six years old. The reason why she picked this sport is because her mom made her play. Hello, My name is Joshua and today I will be interviewing Kaimana in the 6th grade. The first question I asked Kaimana was: “What sport are you going to play and why?” Kaimana said he wants to play Basketball because he wants to try something new. The second question asked was “What does it take to be in shape and why?” He said that eating junk food and then wanting to play a sport will give you side pain and more, but eating healthy and wanting to play a sport won’t probably give you any side pain. The third question that I asked Kaimana was “[Depending on what sport you’re playing] What position do you want to be placed at and why?” Kaimana said he wants to be on the catcher position because again, he wants to try something new. We are Devyn and Janessa, and we are from Ms.Rodriguez’s journalism class. We are your reporters for this week. Our theme this week is, "What does it take to be an SAS student?" Being an SAS student means it is important to be in dress code. It also means to always get good grades, have a good attitude, and follow all rules at school. Most importantly it means to have lots of fun. It can be hard sometimes, but keep trying and you will do good. SAS is a good place to learn new things and have fun. Being an SAS student also means to be honest and turn in work on time. Also don’t play around in class. This is all for today. Have a wonderful day! BYE!!
