What exploratory have you enjoyed the most, and why? I liked drones the most, because Mr.C was chill, he let us just fly our drones all class. What type of exploratories do you want next year, and why I want art as an exploratory next year. The reason why is because, I suck at art, but it seems fun. I’ve been to an arts integrated school (Pomaikai elementary). I just want become better at art.

Mahalo 8th Grade Sams Weekly Staff!A BIG thank you is in order to the 8th grade staff members at SAMS Weekly. This group worked very hard to produce news-worthy posts for you and the rest of the SAS 'Ohana to enjoy! I asked the student to reflect on their journey here at SAMS Weekly, and they reflected on the following questions:
Kaylee S.
Luke M.
Chamber Y.
Toa S. Honestly, I thought that journalism would be kind of boring. However, it was actually a good exploratory. I got to do a lot of jobs, maybe not all of them, but all of the ones I did were fun. I learned that if one job doesn’t meet the deadline it affects all the jobs. Meeting the deadline is important if you want the news to go up. Say I was photography, if I didn’t turn it in on time then the news letter won’t have pictures to go with the spotlight. Now I know that the deadline is important in all jobs. I enjoyed how easy and fun the jobs were. The best part of journalism was when we finished our jobs we got free time, and we didn’t have to worry about meeting deadlines I wouldn’t change much about journalism, but for my experience I should’ve been more responsible and on time. I didn’t turn in my permission sheet and I wandered a lot. So, I would’ve changed that. For the next group, don’t try to be sly with your phones. Ms. Shea catches us all the time. Kyshalee V. Before I took Journalism I thought it was going to be fun. My hypothesis was correct, It’s been a very fun six weeks.I thought that I would be basically writing/ typing the whole class but I was wrong. I never really knew how fun journalism was until I took it. I’ve learned a lot more about my fellow middle schoolers and what they do out of school. SAMS Weekly has truly proved how awesome the middle schoolers are.We all truly have something unique to share and i’m glad that I learned a little bit more about the people down here at the middle school. I mostly enjoyed photography where Kassidy and I adventure the campus taking pictures. I also loved helping with the bulletin board. Doing the board was fun because we truly put our creativity to work, and the result was amazing. I wouldn’t really want to change anything about SAMS Weekly. I understand that we can't fully take control of the website but in a way I wish we could. Maybe for photography we could use better cameras .It’s just a suggestion to take to mind because some of the ipods are very difficult to deal with (One of them turns off randomly). My advice for the next group is to take their job somewhat seriously because the other group is most likely trying their hardest and when the article doesn’t go up it’s a bummer for everyone else. My other advice to the other group is to turn in their permission slip in on time. Kassidy R. I though SAMS weekly was going to be boring. The other 8th graders didn't seem like they enjoyed it. But I was excited to have Ms. Shea for exploratory. I learned that it was actually fun in Journalism. Hanging out with Ms. Shea was fun because she plays good music. I learned more about some of the middle school students I interviewed. I like doing the bulletin board. I also learned to work with other people. I enjoyed walking around campus with Kysha taking pictures the most. It was nice to talk to some of the teachers. It was fun doing the bulletin board about trends with Elise. The bulletin board should be interesting every week and fun to look at. Whoever is reporter should write a better report. The comics should be more funny and creative. Overall the SAMS weekly website is interesting to look at. Khoa L.
Elise R. To be honest, I never even looked at the SAMS Weekly website before Journalism. I used to think it was just a way the school was trying to get students involved in activities. But now I think that SAMS Weekly is kind of cool. In Journalism, I learned that deadlines are so important, and also following the directions. Deadlines are ways to make sure that you are able to do your work and finish it on time. We had one week to complete our jobs, and if we didn’t do them, our part wouldn’t be in it at all. I enjoyed designing the week’s bulletin board the most because it put my creative abilities to work. I printed about 40 papers, but it was worth it. I like organizing and decorating, so it was perfect for me. I don’t think I want to change or improve anything about SAMS Weekly or Journalism. My experiences were okay and I had no problems at all. Some advice for the next group would be to turn their permission slips right away. We had a problem with them in our class, and we had to write sentences. Also to follow directions when they are given. Geste O. I thought journalism was going to really fun and interesting before starting it. I thought it was really cool that we all got to use SAMS Weekly and posting for the school. I was really excited nevertheless about starting journalism. I learned many things during journalism like working with friends and being responsible for your on job. I learned to be more responsible and to work harder during journalism on ideas. It also bring up my confidence in me since we were mostly asking other students questions. I learned more about teamwork and being a good friend. That is mostly all the things I learned in journalism. I enjoyed being with my friends during journalism the most. Going on the computer and helping each other out on our jobs. I also like that we got to go outside of the classroom to get our work done so It was really fun and enjoyable. I liked everything about journalism and I would love to do it again. I would like to improve on some of my jobs that I didn't really do good on or get to finish like making the bulletin board better and taking more pictures. I wouldn't really change any of the jobs because they're all very good and interesting. I wish I was a little more responsible about my work and that I did more in some of my jobs. That is all the things I wish I could improve on or change. Advice I would give to next journalism group is to be responsible about your jobs and make sure you get your work done first thing and not last minute. Also work well with your partner if you have a job with them even if you don't get along that well, getting along and working together better will make your job much easier. Even if you guys dont have the same idea figure a way that will work out for everyone in the group. Max M. Some of the work was fun, others were not. It was overall an interesting experience and one I would be fine in repeating later in school. I did not learn much in journalism. Much of the work is stuff I have done before. While it was fun, it was nothing new for me. I wished for more of a variety of choices when it came to jobs. I enjoyed almost all of it. The work was fun, and the climate was relaxed. I would be happy to repeat this experience if need be later in school. I rate the experience a 7/10 stars. I had only a few gripes with this class. I wanted more variety in the possible jobs to choose from. This would help avoid possible conflicts in the class. Good luck. Find the job you will like best, and try to do your best. Have fun during the class, because if you do, you will enjoy yourself very much. Therefore, try to comply with the teacher and do your jobs to your best ability. Staff members that we would like to thank, although did not meet reflection deadlines. Mahalo for your work! :) |
